At Arkemi, we believe that no building typology is too “bland” to be considered part of our architectural heritage—whether it’s a run-down barn or an office in a prefab concrete structure. Our projects often begin with a deep respect for the existing space, preserving as much as possible and making only minimal, necessary adaptations.

When we signed the lease for our new offices, we committed—both ideologically and practically—to pushing this approach further than ever before.

Arkaden Coworking is the transformation of an old ground-floor office space within the iconic Drakenberg housing estate on Hornsgatan. Originally built in the 1970s, the space has been carefully adapted to become more flexible and suited for long-term use.

The renovation prioritized the reuse of building materials, sourced both on-site and externally. Through materiality and color, we deliberately emphasized the contrast between old and new, ensuring that additions stand out rather than blend in. To reinforce both the pedagogical and economic aspects of the project, much of the construction work was carried out by our own team.

Today, the office is home to five smaller companies within the creative field, fostering collaboration in a shared workspace. The layout includes both a larger and a smaller meeting room, a welcoming lobby, a fully equipped kitchen, and ample storage space—designed to accommodate the diverse needs of its tenants while maintaining the integrity of the original structure.

At Arkemi, every building—whether a run-down barn or a prefab office—is part of our architectural heritage. We begin each project by respecting the existing space, making only minimal adaptations. With our new lease, we advanced this approach by transforming a 1970s ground-floor office in the iconic Drakenberg housing estate on Hornsgatan into Arkaden Coworking.

The renovation emphasized reusing materials, sourced both on-site and externally, and highlighted the contrast between old and new through deliberate material and color choices, with much of the work carried out by our own team. Today, the space is home to five creative companies, featuring flexible meeting rooms, a welcoming lobby, a fully equipped kitchen, and ample storage—all while preserving the building’s original integrity.
